Segedunum fireworks on 5 November, Tynemouth on the 7th, Remembrance on the 8th, the Spanish City tree on 15 November, then panto and the Christmas markets.

Bonfire night carries on this week at Segedunum on Thursday 5 November and Tynemouth Cricket Club on Saturday 7 November. Whitley Bay’s Remembrance parade is at 3pm on Sunday 8 November, and on Sunday 15 November Spanish City lights its 30ft tree. The panto opens on 4 December, and North Shields Christmas Market fills Northumberland Square on 5 and 6 December.

Schools are back on Monday 2 November. Two firework nights fall this week, Segedunum on Thursday and Tynemouth Cricket Club on Saturday, with Remembrance Sunday on 8 November. Our fireworks page has every display and the Metro closures.

  • Fireworks at the Fort, Segedunum, Thursday 5 November, site opens 5pm, fireworks from 6.30pm, Segedunum Roman Fort, Buddle Street, Wallsend, NE28 6HR. Bonfire night itself, over the river where Swan Hunter launched its ships. Free, no ticket, with a suggested donation of £2 per adult; the £10 viewing tower tickets are sold out.   • Tynemouth Cricket Club fireworks display, Saturday 7 November, gates 5pm, fireworks from 7pm, Tynemouth Cricket Club, Preston Avenue, North Shields, NE30 2BG. The club’s ticketed display, with fairground rides, food stalls and the bar open. Early bird tickets are on sale through TicketSource; the club does not list the prices on its own post. Parking is very limited, so the club asks people to come by public transport, and the council closes the Harbottle footpath from 6pm to 8pm. (Tynemouth Cricket Club)
  • Murder Mystery Night: Death by Candle Light, Saturday 7 November, 7pm to 11pm, The Greenhouse, Tynemouth Park, Grand Parade, NE30 4JL. A Victorian-themed murder mystery acted out by Tall Tales, with a buffet included. Tickets £20. (Tynemouth Park)

  • Whitley Bay Remembrance Sunday parade, Sunday 8 November, 3pm, The Links, NE26 1TQ. The town’s parade and service at the cenotaph, in the afternoon rather than at 11am, with a rolling road closure from 2.15pm along Station Road, Victoria Terrace, Whitley Road, Park Avenue, Marine Avenue, The Links and Watts Slope.   • Whitley Bay junior parkrun, every Sunday, 9am, The Links, NE26 1TP. A free weekly 2k for four to 14 year olds. (parkrun)
  • Tynemouth Market, every Saturday and Sunday, 9am to 3.30pm, Tynemouth Station, Station Terrace, NE30 4RE. Stalls and street food inside the Metro station. Dogs are allowed and there is paid parking on the west side of the station. (Tynemouth Markets)

Getting there

The Playhouse and Spanish City are both a few minutes’ walk from Whitley Bay Metro station, and Tynemouth Market is inside Tynemouth station itself. The St James to Monkseaton closure ended on Sunday 1 November, so trains are back at Whitley Bay. Nexus has also suspended trains between Tynemouth and Wallsend until Thursday 5 November for urgent bridge repairs in North Shields, with replacement buses every 20 minutes (Travel North East).
